Irish
Terrier Club of Southern California
A call went out in Southern California to invite interested Irish
Terrier owners and breeders to a first meeting February 13, 1966.
Twenty-five enthusiastic people attended that day. In 1974 we
held our first specialty at an all-breed show. In 1976 our first
independent specialty was held in conjunction with the newly formed
Great Western Terrier Association.
One of our charter members, Martha McGeein, knew the man who designed
the logo for MGM, and asked his help in designing a logo for the
ITCSC. The result is our club logo and the influence of MGM is
obvious.
During the years, we have hosted several Irish Terrier Club of
America Traveling Specialties. In June 1997, we hosted a Traveling
Specialty, which was part of the national club's centennial celebration.
Club activities include an "Owner-Handled" show in January
where we furnish the trophies. This is followed by a get-together
and meeting in the home of one of the members. There is also a
Saint Patrick's Day meeting and social event in March, a picnic
in August and our specialty show in June. Our bimonthly newsletter,
"The Irish Mail" contains a report on wins of our members,
health tips, and lots of trivia.
From the original 25 members we are now a club of 56 members.
We have supporting members from various states including Arizona,
Washington, Tennessee, Iowa, Colorado, and North Carolina. We
also have members from the Northern Club which is reciprocated
by members from our Southern Club. The two clubs support each
other's specialty shows.
The Irish Terrier Club of Southern California wishes the best
of luck for the future of all of the regional clubs.
